One of the three films I saw today was X-Men III: The Last Stand. Since the first X-Men came out in 2000, I’ve enjoyed watching the first and second films so I couldn’t wait to see this one. It was a ‘cartoon day’ at our nearest cinema so Taz and myself hopped off towards town, because in addition to X3, we could see Ice Age 1 and 2 for a cheap one off price! I love Scrat!
Having seen X3 I have to say that I’m not too impressed. To me the producers tried to do way too much in a short amount of time. Killing off three major characters in a meaningless manner was quite a poor move. It seemed badly planned out anyway. I thought there was meant to be some big ‘war’? The title ‘The Last Stand’ implicates this (in a way) and from the numerous teaser trailers suggest that a big battle is imminent.
The final battle was poor and left me unimpressed. Having about 50 mutants having a street brawl with very little use of their powers was just plain boring. These mutants were meant to be the most menacing threat to the world and here they are punching and throwing each other about!
- Vinny Jones is the Juggernaut who looked extremely out of place, even his scant appearances in the film were horribly weak.
- Ben Foster play’s Angel. A teenager with angelic wings who makes five equally poor appearances in the film.
- Kelsey Grammer makes a good showing as Beast though.
Seeing the Class 5 mutant known as Pheonix was awesome and her powers were incredible, it’s just a shame that she wasn’t used more often. They had a good storyline here but it just wasn’t executed as well as it could have been. Ah well, at least there’s a sequel to look forward to!
Ice Age 1 and 2 left me with my jaw hurting from laughing and sniggering so much, while Taz had the hiccups from her bouts of laughter. A brilliant weekend so far and the searing heat just made things more enjoyable.

lol there’s no major spoilers there! I never said who was killed off, and everyone knows pheonix is the most powerful mutant thing, and scrat to be fair owns them all. Besides you’ve already seen it!
