The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Went out last night to watch a film with Taz, which was a night just waiting to go wrong, and boy did it go wrong! The plan for Saturday night was to chill out in a bar for a bit before going to watch Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock’s new film The Lake House. Her car wouldn’t even start so we ended up getting the bus. The bus arrives, and hey presto the doors are stuck! So there’s me trying to pry open the doors from the outside, while the driver is doing the same from within, suddenly the doors burst open outwards in such a way that they hit me in the face quite hard - followed by Taz falling into fits of laughter. Very funny you dippy get!

We made it to town 2hrs before the late night showing of the films and just as we enter the bar, the fire alarm goes off! The entire bar is evacuated while the management figure out the problem. I’m already in a mood as it was a hot day and all I wanted was ONE pint o beer! Most other bars were quite full due to the world cup match on at the time so we just relaxed outside on a bench talking. Several other things went wrong at this stage but I won’t bother with the details lol.

Eventually we arrived at the cinema but noticed that Tokyo Drift was out, so instead of watching the romantic garb that was The Lake House, we saw that instead. Tokyo Drift, in short was very, very good - much better then the first two Fast and the Furious outings. The storyline was half decent, the actors were mostly unknowns but the film stayed focused on its main story rather then souped up cars like the first two did. I tell you, we were both tipsy while watching the film but we still enjoyed it heaps mainly because Taz fancied the main male actor Lucas Black , while I fancied Nathalie Kelley , the female lead actor in it.

The film follows a young southern American kid who regularly ends up moving from high school to high school because he’s a street born petrol racer who always finds himself in trouble. This time he’s crossed the line though, and to avoid a jail sentence he’s off to Tokyo to live with his uncle who’s in the military. He’s told to avoid street racing by his uncle, but he ignores this and falls right into the underground racing scene, except its not straight forward racing that he or indeed us - the viewers are used to.

There’s one scene in the film we both loved, and it was a serene moment where the lead actor, is taken to the winding mountan Touge by Neela (the female hottie) and herself and 5 other cars are just drifting in harmony through the mountain in the gorgeous moonlit night. It was a lovely scene where the soundtrack fitted in perfectly with that one moment, minus the corny dialogue. Those who’ve played the successful Electronic Arts title - Need for Speed Underground, will already know what this is about. Drift racing is hardly what he’s used to, so after losing a race to a Japanese wannabe Yakuza, he’s forced to learn the ropes of drift racing in order to repay his debt. Great film though, and I really can’t wait to see it again. It had a few good key Japanese actors in it which really made it quite enjoyable to watch. Almost got thrown out twice, thanks to Taz going into schoolgirl mode and flicking popcorn at people during the films race scenes…something tells me she was a bit bored lol

Hey I wasn’t bored :) I think the drinks beforehand just got me somewhat tipsy thats all. I hate it when people use their phones during a movie just because they wish to show off their big, bright screens. My SE P900’s huge screen would shut them all up!

I quite liked the film, as it wasn’t the typical american race scene affair. I wonder what the fourth one will be like??

    Hiiii I’m back!!! :)
I went out with the bf to watch this but I didn’t find it too enjoyable, I guess he did because he had a grin on his face everytime neela was onscreen. We’re going to check out The Lake House next as it looks to be an interesting film :)

Hiya Lisa, hope you all are doing good :) Nice to see you two had a good time lol, it’s pointless watching it if you haven’t seen the very first one though as it’ll make little sense. At least you got to see it properly though!

I was living in fear of being thrown out of the cinema as I watched bits of popcorn ricochet off various viewers heads in the cinema. Taz almost got us thrown out twice because of that! I’ve no idea what got into her!
