The World Cup starts here

Never have I seen so many St.Georges flags flutter away around the Uk. The World Cup starts here, today and the entire nation is gripped by footy fever. Today I predict that most workplaces will be empty come lunchtime as the first game kicks off (Germany vs Costa Rica) and pubs will be packed out. Morso on Saturday as England go up against Paraguay. For just over a month with 64 games being played, football fans worldwide will be united by this one event. I feel so proud to see the flags flying everywhere, I really do. I just hope England’s squad reach the finals and win it for once – something I’ve wanted to see since I was a child, to see British hands lift that trophy…

One good thing has been the weather over here lately, HOT! Doesn’t describe it – I walked into my labs yesterday morning only to see the digital readout on my desk at a stonking 34°c/93F! It had hit 38°c/100F by the evening!

Yesterday was the hottest day in the Uk so far this year and as a person who rarely feels the heat on his skin, I felt it yesterday! Today I will be travelling to London on work matters for a meeting and I’ve no idea how I’ll keep cool given the conditions lately. As I type this early in the morning, the sun has just risen behind me…it’s going to be one scorcher of a day.

06/06/06 – I get attacked by a Swan!

The date is 06/06/06

We’re all gonna die!! Going to see the film tomorrow, and given that the original three films are probably the most frightening films ever created I can’t see this Hollywood remake even coming close. Hopefully the new remake won’t carry that freaky music from the original because it still gives me nightmares even today. Ooh we’re doomed!

My prediction for 06/06/06: Rottweilers experience a surge in popularity in the US after the release of this film.

X-Men III: The Last Stand

One of the three films I saw today was X-Men III: The Last Stand. Since the first X-Men came out in 2000, I’ve enjoyed watching the first and second films so I couldn’t wait to see this one. It was a ‘cartoon day’ at our nearest cinema so Taz and myself hopped off towards town, because in addition to X3, we could see Ice Age 1 and 2 for a cheap one off price! I love Scrat!

Having seen X3 I have to say that I’m not too impressed. To me the producers tried to do way too much in a short amount of time. Killing off three major characters in a meaningless manner was quite a poor move. It seemed badly planned out anyway. I thought there was meant to be some big ‘war’? The title ‘The Last Stand’ implicates this (in a way) and from the numerous teaser trailers suggest that a big battle is imminent.

The final battle was poor and left me unimpressed. Having about 50 mutants having a street brawl with very little use of their powers was just plain boring. These mutants were meant to be the most menacing threat to the world and here they are punching and throwing each other about!
