This is a slightly random question, but how many of you have dreams you can recall? For four years, since I started work at my present er workplace I have very rarely dreamt. Actually I probably have but cannot recollect any memories of what they were about. Suffice to say that when I do wake up and realised I’ve actually dreamt, it gets me thinking - A LOT.
Due to me being a complete angry idiot, I don’t drive so I have to wake up at 4am every morning. Given that I go to sleep at around 11:30pm, I get around 4.5hrs sleep every day, hardly enough for a raging teenager let alone a 32yr old male living in London. Why so early? Well the buses are pretty poor over here and it takes me an hour and a half to get to work, when it would take 30mins by car. So I am convinced that it is due to my short sleep durations that I no longer get any sleep. This really peeves me off, but is partially my fault because I don’t want a car.
Since my Christmas break begun two days ago, I have got approximately two weeks of R&R and guess what? I dreamt last night for the first time in ages - and I remembered it well, I wish I hadn’t actually because it was a rather touchy subject this whole dream was about. A while ago I said bye to a friend who was rather dear to me. Lost contact we have, to an extent.
Dream goes as follows: I set about getting ready one morning at 4am, it was pitch black outside and chilly as always. At this time of the morning the only thing one would see alive on the roads would be foxes and cats. I left the house, looking up at the sky before taking a deep breath and looked down at the long road I’d have to walk up, which leads to a bridge connecting me to the other side of my road. This bridge crosses over a lot of railway tracks and is bordered up on both sides with corrugated steel, it’s been like this for years.
I walked. At the furthest end of the bridge lies a dense bushy area where a ramp leads up to the main road, where my bus stop lies. I saw what looked like the silhouette of a person near the ramp but couldn’t tell as I was still far away. As I got closer I realised that it was a person, as I got closer I realised it was you. You stood there focused on me, how or why you were here just didn’t cross my mind but you were here, a silent hug followed. I took you back home and let you sleep, you always liked that.
Later that day at work a thousand thoughts passed my mind, and the dream seemed to have fast forwarded at this stage. We were sitting in a bar now. You were telling me everything that had happened in your life since we had last talked, and vice versa I suppose, and then…and then I woke up. It was 1pm and I hadn’t slept this long in ages. What initially startled me so badly was that I remembered every intricate detail, and that is a rarity. I ate a mince pie to celebrate the fact that I actually remembered a dream.
I was going to write about this event in my old diary, but since this blog is now my more modern equivalent, I think it belongs here. Besides PR can laugh at me this way.
