A Moment To Reflect…

Tonight I managed to finish watching the first three episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - A continuation of The Terminator trilogy now serialised by the Fox network. As I watched this a few thoughts came storming in to my head as I saw one of the CGI Terminators in Episode 3. I cast my mind back to 1991 when Terminator 2 came out.

For those who know their computer hardware, did you know that the transformation scenes for the Terminator 2’s evil T-1000 were done by the legends known as ILM - Industrial Light & Magic? Most people will be nodding their heads round about now. However did you know that the machines they used back then consisted of 40MHz Silicon Graphics workstations with 64MB of RAM? Just think about that for a moment and look at the power we have with today’s hardware…scary isn’t it?

I Am Legend

"They mostly come out at night…mostly"

Coming from director Francis Lawrence we have the cinematic adaptation of Richard Matheson’s novel and has been in development for years now. It was originally to be directed by Ridley Scott featuring Arnie, except by the time the final details were confirmed Arnie was a big shot governor in some U.S city…

I pretty much know what goes on this film but wanted to see it on the big screen. This was a Boxing Day release so I thought we could wait a week or so before watching it. There would be less chav’s in the cinema and we could actually watch in peace without bloody default Nokia or Sony Ericsson ringtones going off every 10 seconds. It wasn’t too packed so I could really take in the grim reality faced by our protagonist Dr. Robert Neville played superbly by Will Smith.

Knight Rider returns!

Got KARR?

The huge Cult US show returns on February 17th 2008 with a two hour pilot, prior to the new series. Knight Rider was legendary back in the 80’s telling story of one man and his high-tech indestructible car. However the legend that is David Hasselhoff, 55 won’t be returning to the show at all. Instead we will be introduced to his son played by Justin Bruening, 28. So far ITV are the favourites to obtain the rights to the show here in the UK.

Now I’m hyped up about this for one reason. I LOVE SHELBY GT500’s - they’re my dream cars, and KITT just happens to be a GT500KR! However looking at the early shots, I’m not convinced it can work. The original KITT was a simple looking thing, with a jet black exterior and black wheels. The GT500KR confirms to this but those 20" chrome wheels look well out of place right now. I have seen shots of the GT500 with black wheels too so who knows what will be used.

Black Sheep

Get the flock outta here!

Just for relaxation, this weekend myself and Deena watched a film I’ve been longing to watch the moment I saw the first trailer.

Black Sheep is from Jonathan King and features mad, angry carnivorous sheep, which run amok on a remote New Zealand farm. Henry Oldfield has a rather silly phobia - he has a fear of sheep after being the victim of a rather horrible childhood prank by his older brother, Angus.

After spending a good number of years working and living in the city, Henry returns to the farm to see old friends and to sell off his remaining share of the place to his brother. At the same time we’re introduced to two environmentalists who are trespassing onto the property to expose Angus, because according to them he is performing genetic experiments on his livestock.

The Verve’s UK Tour

Yarr! Thursday Dec 13th at the O2 Arena myself and Deena are off to watch the legends that are Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury perform in front of thousands. The tickets for the whole tour were sold out quite a while ago but she bought us both some well before that as a birthday present.

This morning she happily told me about it, even though I’d already known about it because I sneaked a peek at the receipts in her handbag weeks ago :o So we’ll be in Block 101, to the left of the stage boogying away to one of the best bands of the 90’s alongside Oasis. I can’t flippin wait for this one! Ta luv!

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Eeep! "One Ugly Mother Hubbard"

Some things not to admit to on Irc…

What are your worst tunes on your MP3 player?

Today was the launch of the new Apple iPod range over in the states. Needless to say there were good and bad products shown here, the highlight being the iPod Touch thing, which I’m sure people will quickly snap up only to realise that touchscreen’s aren’t too COOL in use. The iPod Touch doesn’t have that much storage space either, well for some people anyway. For those who require over 16GB of space for their albums, they’ll have to carefully manage what goes onto their new iPod. Anyway, over on our quakenet channel where most of us old-school gamers chat and complain about life in general, PR was getting rather amped up about the new iPod despite stating he wasn’t wanting one.

An hour later after the Apple announcement ended, he’s started pruning away at his iPod music collection… So what follows are various snippets cut out of the channel, because some of the tracks PR has puts my collection to shame!. Let the shaming begin!

Heroes on HD DVD

"It is not the sword. It is the man"

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, myself and Deena did just one thing. No, not that you dirty minded readers! We spent three days watching the entire Season 1 boxset of Heroes on HD DVD. I was initially unimpressed when it first aired in America. I saw the first six episodes and gave up. What started out as such a promising show felt just too slow and dull. As the show progressed it gathered fans at an incredible rate. I’ve not seen this much talk about a US Series since LOST came out, and after a single season, that turned out to be dull tripe.

So we have just watched the finale, and yet there is a ton of content still left to be watched, including the 72minute unaired pilot episode. Universal fully utilised the HD DVD format to the max and it shows with their U-Control feature. Picture in Picture extras, Character Connections, Artwork Presentations and Helix Reveals are all selectable whilst you watch an episode. At key moments the U-Control logo pops up enabling you to access the additional information.

Transformers

Stupid looking CGI bots ahoy!

When I first heard that the yanks, well Micheal Bay to be precise had bastardised the Transformers film by ‘updating’ it to modern day movie standards I like many fans was less then happy. However to cut a long whining story short, I had to swallow my pride upon seeing the film tonight because even though I said it’ll suck, it was in fact superb. Me and Deena rushed to the cinema to watch this as we were strapped for time. Over in my home town, this sodding film has been booked solid for weeks, hell we couldn’t even get a Saturday late night ticket, so Sunday evening had to suffice.

After munching on Pizza’s, which are strangely becoming a weekly addiction for us two we bounced off towards the cinema. We barely made it in time just as the mysterious Cloverfield trailer was airing before the main film.

The Simpsons Movie

Spider Pig! Spider Pig!

I’ve been feeling rather run down this weekend. To tell the truth, I’m missing an old friend who I haven’t heard from in quite a while. I’m sure she reads this blog, so wherever you are - I hope you’re doing alright.

I needed cheering up, and given that Transformers and The Simpsons movie were both released here in the UK, I wanted to try and watch both in a day, sadly it wasn’t possible as Transformers is completely booked up until Tuesday! Given that Deena is a mad Simpsons fan, we ended up going to watch the early Sunday show.

Now, I’ve got to admit that I am no Simpsons fan. It is probably the longest running cartoon that comes to mind, and I do admit that the handful of episodes I have seen have always made me smile. After watching the movie though I can simply state that the critics of this film have possibly had a sense of humour bypass as I found it very amusing, in fact I ended up laughing like a demented school girl at quite a few of the gags.
