Multiplayer
Co-op mode has now been added via an update, but you need to have unlocked the levels first in single player mode before you play them. Other then that it works well enough. This just isn’t good enough though. It would have been a better option to allow players to venture through the game right from the offset so they can experience everything together rather then finish the game and then re-do those levels again with a partner. Having said that, Co-op was brought in as a post release update, and Rare could have added it to the game before it went gold but in doing so would have meant costly delays, and they would have missed out on Kameo being a launch title. Split screen mode is also available but I’ve yet to try this.
Conclusion
Kameo hugely impressed me. It was one of the first titles I played on the 360 and left a memorable imprint in my head. The incredible graphics and superb audio had me engrossed for a good two weeks before I finished the game. I found gameplay extremely fun, but some sections rather frustrating. Some of the bosses for example were a bit tedious to defeat upon first encountering them. Once I knew a tactic to kill them, it was plain sailing.
Kameo demonstrates the sheer power of the 360 in many ways. The Elves vs Troll war is a breathtaking sight, never before have I seen so many animated creatures battle it out with each other, and I could freely join in, if I wanted to! Later on you encounter the final stages of the war which is just as large and even harder to get past. With so much debris, and animated objects flying around the scene just makes you appreciate how hard Rare have worked on the game engine to make things run so smoothly.
Given that this game, which was a launch title is available on the Xbox 360’s ‘Classic Collection’ now for around £17.99 - it’s a worthy purchase for kids and adults alike. Everyone will enjoy this title.
