Conclusion
In general use the keyboard is a joy to type on. Within Windows Vista everything works well providing that you install IntelliType, which grants you full keyboard functionality. The keys feel really soft in use not to mention quiet. The leather wrist rest could be a bit larger though as I cannot fully rest my hands on them but for most users this will be perfectly adequate, I just wish it was also detachable. As for signal strength concerns, you will be happy to know that I was able to use the keyboard from approx 8 feet away without any issues, so I am more than pleased with the performance of this keyboard given that I have only just bought it.
I wish I could say better things about the Laser 6000 Mouse though. I knew it would be poor the moment I decided to buy this package, and I had no intentions of using it anyway. What annoys me is that you cannot buy a good Microsoft Wireless keyboard without a useless mouse being bundled with it, which bumps up the overall price. I would be willing to guess that this mouse has added a good £15 onto the total price, which means that the keyboard itself could be about £25. A 1000 dpi mouse is just not acceptable for gaming purposes nowadays, and I have no idea how much of a latency issue the mouse has in gaming.
Pros:
- Great ergonomic design
- Quiet touch keys
- Excellent customisable hotkeys
- IntelliType is a joy to use
- Mac OS X drivers!
- Long battery life
Cons:
- Poor performing bundled mouse
- 27MHz receiver could cause issues
- Leather wrist rest isn’t detachable
- No Caps/Num/Scroll LED’s present on keyboard
Edit: After 2 months of continous use, I’ve had enough of this keyboard and am going back to my old wired one, which was far superior. Right now I’m having an issue with the keyboard quite frequently losing track of what I am typing, or missing out the odd letter. Because I am a touch typist I find this quite annoying and trying to type out a report only to find that your previous lines have missing characters in them is just not acceptable at all.
It could be wireless interference doing this, but I have moved my mobile phone off my desk, as well as switched off wireless networking on my router to reduce any possible interference but the problem still persists. Aside from this issue, the keyboard has been perfectly fine so far, however I’m heading back to a wired keyboard. - Darren 9th June 2007.
