Project Gotham Racing 3 finally arrived on the 360 as the main launch title for the console, alongside quite a few quality launch titles. The hype for this game was quite high, mainly because of it being a rather controversial title. Graphically PGR3 was incredible, and early screenshots had fans drooling, while gamers (including yours truly) questioned them as to whether they were really in-game screenshots or high quality renders. There has never ever been a racing game to pack so much graphical and audio realism into one package. In short, this game is a graphics and audio masterpiece. Does that equate to a great racer though?
These were the initial screenshots that were leaked onto the net. Are they in-game shots or high quality renders?
Last week we released a single screenshot from PGR3, which seemed to cause quite a stir all over the Internet. Initially, people claimed it was just a photograph! I think people have pretty much come to the correct conclusion now though – this is what people can genuinely expect from the next generation of video games. Bizarre Creations are proud to be one of the developers leading the charge toward High Definition, and we’re very pleased with the results so far. As a small gift to all of you who still refuse to believe that last week’s image was a real screenshot, here we have the wire-frame version of the same scene, captured from the same dev kit that the original screenshot was taken.
Gotham Career is where most drivers will spend their time. In career mode, you can begin your solo career by purchasing your first starter car and adding it to your garage. From this point onwards, you can partake in races by choosing your difficulty level, which also determines what type of medal you’re awarded and you’re ready to go.
PGR3 as I will now refer to it has approximately 80 hot performance vehicles from around the globe. Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, Lotuses and TVR’s are amongst this lot and are all yours to play with providing you have the money to purchase them in the first place. The full list of cars available is quite stunning. Luckily money is quite easy to come by in PGR3, if you are already racing in career mode then you will find yourself accumulating credits quite rapidly. Career mode in PGR3 is divided into two sections now. It consists of the normal Solo mode, which has you pitted against AI cars, and an Online mode in which you race against real Xbox live drivers over various tracks.
Solo mode is what most newcomers to this game will start in, after all it is the best way to get used to the handling of your preferred vehicles, not to mention learning the various racetracks. It allows you to build up your car collection as well as store them in your garages. Yes, I said garages, as you can have more than one garage. Bizarre Creation’s website has a lovely in depth look at all the garages, and some are extremely beautiful.
